British Veteran Owned Locksmith
The Key Locksmith is a British veteran owned locksmith business run by Gerry Commane, an MLA-approved locksmith based in Orpington and covering Bromley, South East London, Kent and London.
Before becoming a locksmith, I served in the Royal Navy from 1998 to 2003 as a Naval Airman SE. That background shaped the way I work today: turn up when I say I will, stay calm under pressure, solve the problem properly and treat people with respect.
When you call The Key Locksmith, you speak directly to Gerry, not a call centre.
A Locksmith Business Built on Service
The Key Locksmith was built around simple values: reliability, honesty, practical skill and doing the job properly.
Locksmith work often happens when people are stressed. You may be locked out, dealing with lost keys, trying to secure a door after a break-in, or struggling with a uPVC door that suddenly will not lock.
My job is to turn up, explain what has happened, give clear options and leave your home, business, vehicle or van secure.
That direct approach comes from years of working in situations where attention to detail matters.
Why British Veteran Owned Matters
Being a British veteran owned locksmith business is not just a label. It reflects how I want The Key Locksmith to operate.
Customers call me because they want someone they can trust at their door. That matters even more when the job is urgent, late at night, or involves security for a home, business, van or family member.
The values I bring from military service include:
Reliability
Discipline
Clear communication
Calm problem-solving
Respect for customers
Attention to detail
Pride in the work
Accountability
You deal directly with the person doing the job, and I stand behind the work I carry out.
No Call Centre — Speak Directly to Gerry 07803 721200
Many locksmith adverts online are run by national call centres. Customers can be passed from one person to another, quoted low starting prices, and then sent an unknown subcontractor.
The Key Locksmith is different.
When you call, you speak directly to me. I explain what is likely involved, give clear advice and attend the job myself wherever possible. You know who is coming to your door, and you know who is responsible for the work.
That is especially important for emergency locksmith jobs, burglary repairs, lock changes, uPVC door failures, commercial premises and vehicle security work.
Gerry’s Royal Navy Background
I served in the Royal Navy from 1998 to 2003 as a Naval Airman SE, serving onboard HMS Heron, HMS Seahawk and HMS Alderney.
Onboard HMS Heron and HMS Seahawk, I worked with aircraft as part of the Fleet Air Arm. My work involved parachutes, ejector seats, liferafts and aircraft survival equipment, where safety, accuracy and attention to detail were essential.
I also had a detachment to HMS Liverpool, which included visits to Gambia, Sierra Leone and Gibraltar. That experience gave me a wider view of service life, working away from home, adapting to different environments and being part of a team representing the Royal Navy overseas.
HMS Alderney was a fishery protection vessel, and I spent a year onboard working as a seaman. My duties included working on the bridge, learning navigation, carrying out deck work and being part of boarding parties on fishing vessels.
Sport was also a big part of my Navy years. I represented the SE department playing football, including matches against the RAF and tournaments that included Germany. That team environment reinforced the importance of discipline, fitness, teamwork and representing your unit properly.
That experience taught me discipline, teamwork, awareness and how to stay calm when a job needs doing properly. Whether working around aircraft, onboard a ship, playing representative football, or helping a customer with a failed lock, the same values matter: think clearly, work properly, use the right method and finish the job properly.
Those lessons still shape the way I run The Key Locksmith today.

MLA Approved and Professionally Trained
The Key Locksmith is not only British veteran owned. I am also approved by the Master Locksmiths Association, a recognised trade body for professional locksmiths.
MLA approval gives customers extra reassurance that they are using a locksmith who has been vetted and works to recognised professional standards.
I am also an Auto Locksmiths Association member, DBS checked and fully insured.
For customers, that means you are choosing a locksmith with real training, proper accountability and a professional approach.

Emergency Locksmith Help
If you are locked out, have lost your keys, snapped a key, or have a door that will not lock, I can help with emergency locksmith services across Orpington, Bromley, South East London, Kent and London.
Where possible, I use non-destructive entry methods to open doors without damaging the lock or door. If a lock has failed internally and needs replacing, I explain why before carrying out the work.
Emergency locksmith work includes:
House lockouts
Flat lockouts
Lost keys
Stolen keys
Snapped keys
Faulty cylinders
Failed night latches
uPVC doors stuck shut
Composite doors not locking
Burglary repairs
Emergency lock changes
uPVC and Composite Door Repairs
A large part of my work involves repairing uPVC and composite doors. These doors often use multipoint locking systems, gearboxes, euro cylinders, handles and keeps that all need to work together.
Common problems include:
Door will not lock
Door will not open
Handle is stiff
Handle is floppy
Key will not turn
Gearbox has failed
Multipoint lock has jammed
Door has dropped
Door catches on the frame
Door only locks when lifted hard
I diagnose the fault properly and repair or replace only what is needed. Sometimes the door needs adjustment. Sometimes the gearbox has failed. Sometimes the cylinder, handles or keeps are the problem.
The aim is to leave the door working smoothly and securely again.
Commercial Locksmith Services
The Key Locksmith also supports businesses, shops, offices, schools, warehouses, landlords and managed properties.
Commercial locksmith services include:
Office lock changes
Shop lock repairs
Warehouse lock upgrades
Fire exit hardware
Panic bars and push pads
Door closers
Digital code locks
Staff key control
Lock changes after staff leave
Burglary repairs
Emergency securing
High-security cylinders
Commercial uPVC and aluminium doors
For commercial customers, I understand that security, access, safety and business continuity all matter. A faulty lock or door can disrupt staff, deliveries, customers and daily operations.
